*Right now accounts do nothing other than put your name on the 'uploaded by' tag on files. While it is mostly for testing purposes right now, the database will not be reset so you can stake your claim to a short username.

Problem with a file? Let us know
and other important information
send.zip (the online service) and send.zip (the web app you have loaded right now) are two different programs. Encryption is done in the latter, in your browser, without connecting to the internet, your file is loaded into ram, encrypted using AES, then uploaded without the key. This also means if you lose your key I can not help you recover your files. ))):
send.zip only uses a cookie when you sign in, to keep you signed in.
No
Most browsers save the file to your downloads as it arrives. Some platforms like iPhones and Firefox private windows can't, so the whole file is written to memory first, and a very large file may run out of memory.
send.zip is a file transfer service, not a file storage service. Storage is far more expensive to give away for free, or even sell. I may add a paid tier for file storage when send.zip has scaled up enough to make this viable.
The average user really does not spend that much bandwidth, so a small amount of paid users can effectively subsidize the site for everyone else. Even if there are no paid users, I have a large unused bandwidth allowance from my other sites which only use at most 1% of my bandwidth, leaving the other 99% for send.zip.
I plan to keep the core file sending service free forever (with no bullshit) for both practical and moral reasons. It is more apparent every day that the most important resource of the 21st century is attention, and so much of it is spent on meaninglessly complex tasks like finding a way to send a 9mb file to your friends (while streaming in 720p to them for the last 10 hours).
Files are encrypted in your browser, along with their names, dates and sizes, unless you turn off encryption. Without the link, nobody can read an encrypted file, including us; the server only ever sees its size rounded up (for example 26.7KB -> 100KB). A file sent without encryption can be seen by the server. After a file expires we may remember things like "90 people uploaded a 1mb file today" or "the average length of an upload was 26 seconds."
If you report a link, what you send is kept with the report.
We can't open a file without its key. Paste the full link and the key after the #. More about copyright reports: copyright.
and how to get a file taken down
Use the report form and choose Copyright. A report needs your signature, the work being copied, the send.zip link, your email, and the statement on the form.
The link is taken down as soon as the report is sent. We can't see inside files, so include the full link with its key.
Send a counter-notice through the report form (choose Something else) with: your signature; the link that was taken down; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was taken down by mistake; your name, address and phone number; and a statement that you agree to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any district where send.zip can be found) and will accept legal papers from the person who reported it.
If files uploaded from an account are taken down three times, the account is closed and can no longer sign in. Files uploaded without an account are taken down the same way.
